Derrick Brown, Director of Urban Programming for Clear Channel Radio Chicago, has announced the promotion of Al B. Sylk to Music Director.
Sylk, a Chicago native, got his start in radio as an intern and part-timer at KMJQ-FM while attending Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. His first full-time radio gig came a short time after college, hosting nights at WAMO-FM in Pittsburgh. Prior to joining WGCI-FM as a weekend and fill-in host in April 2009, Sylk worked various shifts at radio stations in Norfolk, VA, Philadelphia, PA, Miami, FL and Orland o, FL.
“Al is one of the most gifted individuals I’ve worked with,””said Brown. “He’s virtually done it all and I’m excited about the creativity, focus, and passion Al will bring to WGCI’s programming team as Music Director.”
Sylk replaces Kenard Karter, who will assume Assistant Program Director/Music Director duties at Clear Channel Radio’s KMEL-FM in San Francisco.
This promotion is effective Monday, May 17th.
