2 Dead, 8 Injured During Chicago Mass Shooting Near Loyola University

At least two people died, and eight others were injured during a mass shooting in Chicago near Loyola University. Police said the shooting happened Thursday night.

According to police, the gunman began shooting around 10:40 p.m. Police took the shooter into custody and were able to recover a weapon from the scene.

Police said the shooting took place in the 800 block of North State Street in the city’s 18th District.

Near the Chicago Avenue subway station and a McDonald’s at 10 E. Chicago Ave., shots sounded, said authorities.

The carnage occurred blocks away from Loyola’s Water Tower campus.

The Post’s request for comment was not immediately responded to by Loyola University Chicago and Chicago Fire Department.

Five gunshot victims and one burn victim were taken to area hospitals after paramedics arrived; Chief Juan Hernandez, a spokesperson with the fire department, told the Chicago Tribune.

The outlet reported that one of the victims was in “grave” condition and the other gunshot victims were in serious to critical condition.

Police are still investigating the attack.

The slaying began hours before the Special Olympics Games Law Enforcement Torch Run games are scheduled to take place from Soldier Field to Navy Pier in the city on Friday.
