Eight officers, whose names have not been released, in Akron, Oh shot a man named Jaylen Walker 40 times after a traffic stop. They have all been asked to return to work because of a staff shortage.
They are not in uniform and are still under investigation and helping out at the police station in administrative roles, sans uniforms, or street patrol, even though the shooting is still under investigation.
The tragedy took place this past June. Chief Steve Mylett felt it was necessary to bring the officers back because they are down 31 police officers and there is a staff shortage.
He states that he talked to black community leaders and organizations who agreed that bringing the officers back was the right decision. Walker’s family was informed of the decision the day after the officers were rehired. TSee video
