Incident Overview
At approximately 8:19 p.m. on May 19, an officer-involved shooting occurred at the intersection of South Edgewood Terrace and Burton Avenue in Fort Worth. This incident stemmed from an investigation into an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon that occurred the day before, involving the same suspect, identified as D’oria Thompson, a 33-year-old black male.
Previous Day’s Assault
On May 18, around 6:00 p.m., Mr. Thompson was observed on video pulling up to a business located in the 4800 block of Miller Avenue. He exited his vehicle, approached an alleyway, and after a brief interaction, shot a victim in the shoulder. The victim was treated at a local hospital. Officers gathered information that identified Mr. Thompson and the suspect vehicle, which was entered into the police system.
Pursuit and Shootout
On May 19, patrol units were alerted to the location of the suspect vehicle. An officer located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, leading to a pursuit. During the chase, Mr. Thompson fired at officers, hitting one vehicle and causing damage that ended the officer’s pursuit. The wounded officer, who suffered injuries from broken glass, was transported to a local hospital and treated.
Apprehension of the Suspect
With information about the suspect vehicle, officers tracked it to a residence in the 5500 block of Summit Ridge Trail in Arlington. A perimeter was establi<a href="shed, and Mr. Thompson was observed running to a <a href="shed. SWAT arrived and apprehended him without further incident. Mr. Thompson had a gunshot wound to his lower back and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Charges Filed
Mr. Thompson is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant and the previous day’s aggravated assault charge.
