Introduction
The FBI has issued a new warning about a crime called “jugging,” where thieves target people using ATMs or banks. This warning comes after increasing reports of such incidents in Maryland, particularly in Prince George’s County.
What is Jugging?
Jugging is a crime where thieves follow individuals after they leave a bank or ATM, believing they have a large amount of cash. These criminals often wait until the victim is in their car or at another location before approaching to rob them.
Recent Incidents
According to the FBI’s Baltimore field office, there have been at least 21 jugging incidents in Maryland in the first week of July alone. This adds to over 80 reports of jugging crimes this year, with most occurring in the past two months.
Public Concerns
Local residents, including Hopes Emperor, who is temporarily staying in Anne Arundel County, expressed their worries about this crime becoming a national trend. Emperor, who was unaware of jugging until now, highlighted the fear and inconvenience of needing cash but being at risk of such crimes.
