King’s New Year Honours Shines on Music Industry Figures
The King’s New Year Honours list has unveiled a lineup of artists and industry leaders who have made significant contributions to music and society. Notably, acclaimed composer Max Richter has been awarded a CBE for his profound services to music. This recognition aligns with the recent release of the film Hamnet, which features Richter’s evocative score, now available through Decca Records. With the film generating Oscars buzz, it has already earned a nomination for a Golden Globe.
Ellie Goulding, the pop powerhouse known for her four No.1 singles and albums, receives an MBE for her advocacy work in biodiversity and climate change. As a global environmental ambassador for the UN, Goulding has used her platform to raise awareness and promote action, marking an admirable turn in her career beyond music.
Cynthia Erivo has also been recognized with an MBE for her contributions to music and drama. Erivo, who has dazzled audiences in the film adaptations of Wicked, stands out as a solo recording artist and producer. In her words, this honor is “an honour I could never have thought would happen.”
Also making headlines, Idris Elba received a knighthood for his dedication to empowering young people. While he’s best known as an actor, Elba has also made waves as a DJ and recording artist, recently renewing his publishing deal with Universal Music Publishing Group.
From within the music sector, Karen Emanuel, the founder and CEO of Key Production Group, has been awarded an OBE for her unwavering commitment to the music industry. Phillip Patterson, a former sector specialist at the Department for Business and Trade, has also been honored for his services to music and export, playing a crucial role in the British Music Embassy at SXSW.
Scottish singer Eve Graham, a founding member of The New Seekers, receives the MBE for her contributions to the music world. She’s perhaps best known for the iconic hit “I’d Like To Teach The World To Sing,” which resonated with audiences globally.
Lastly, Janet Fischer, chair of Live Music Now, is recognized with an MBE for her charitable work in music, further highlighting the impact of dedicated individuals in the industry.
