I remember the days when pubic radio was incredibly boring and left in the dust with repeated programs beggins for donations and programmign that left something to be desired. The Tiny Desk Concert series was created by Bob Boilen.
He is a host and producer at NPR (National Public Radio) and came up with the idea in 2008. The concept originated after Boilen and NPR Music editor Stephen Thompson attended a concert by the musician Laura Gibson at a noisy bar, where they had difficulty hearing the music.
Thompson jokingly suggested that Gibson should perform at Boilen’s desk, and from that idea, the Tiny Desk Concert series was born. The series features intimate performances by artists across various genres, recorded at Boilen’s actual desk at the NPR offices in Washington, D.C.
They also have great programming on KCRW in LA. Great programs and music. Love, love, love it. This time Maxwell takes the stage and with a very limited space does an amazing job… enjoy.
