Statements from Leadership

Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy and MusiCares, expressed the shock and sadness felt within the music community, stating, “The entire Grammy family is shocked and deeply saddened by the situation that is unfolding in Los Angeles.

The music community is being so severely impacted, but we will come together as an industry to support one another.”

Laura Segura, executive director of MusiCares, highlighted the urgency of the situation, saying, “We expected the disaster relief efforts in Los Angeles to be extraordinary, if even just on the basis of how many people have lost their homes in the last day.

MusiCares is always committed to ensuring that music professionals are supported in times of crisis, and we ask for the largest community to donate for those in need at this dire time.”

Impact of the Fires

As of Thursday, officials confirmed that over 1,000 homes have burned down in the Palisades fire, with roughly another 1,000 lost in the Eaton fire. Both communities are home to hundreds of musicians and independent contractors, many of whom have lost their recording studios and equipment along with their homes.

Eligibility for Financial Aid

Those eligible for financial aid through MusiCares include producers, live crew members, tour bus drivers, managers, agents, makeup artists, costume designers, music video creatives, technicians, and anyone whose livelihood depends on music.

Applicants must provide documentation of employment history for a minimum of five years in the music industry or submit evidence of six commercially released recordings or videos/singles.

How to Reach Out for Assistance

Musicians impacted by the fires can contact the MusiCares team directly for assistance via email at [email protected] or by calling 1-800-687-4227. The organization is prepared to assist with both short-term emergency needs and longer-term recovery efforts as the situation develops.
