Rubén Blades Partners with Virgin Music Group for Next Career Chapter

Rubén Blades, an icon of Latin music and pioneer of conscious salsa, and Virgin Music Group, the world’s leading partner to independent artists, labels and entrepreneurs, announce their global partnership, marking the exciting next phase of Blades’ illustrious career. Blades has been recognized as one of the most influential figures in Latin music and continues to transcend borders and genres.

With a career spanning over five decades, Blades has left an indelible mark on music and popular culture. During the 1970s, he was a central figure in the New York salsa revolution, bringing a poetic and socially conscious narrative to Afro-Cuban music. His historic albums, enriched by influences of rock, jazz, pan-Latin sounds, and global rhythms, have defined a genre and resonated with generations of fans around the world.

His work has transcended the musical realm, achieving worldwide recognition. His album Salsa Big Band, released in 2017, received the Latin Grammy for Album of the Year. With a total of 12 Grammy Awards and 11 Latin Grammys, Blades has been honored for his artistic contributions, including the prestigious title of Person of the Year awarded by the Latin Recording Academy in 2021, as well as the Album of the Year award for SALSWING! in the same year.

Additionally, he has played a prominent role in the television series Fear the Walking Dead and has shone on the big screen alongside renowned actors such as Robert De Niro and Denzel Washington.

In 2024, Blades has already demonstrated that he continues to evolve and provide quality music to his fans. Upcoming projects include the release of a live recording of the classic album SIEMBRA and the Otro Mundo tour alongside the Éditus Ensemble and the Brazilian vocal group Boca Livre, highlighting his ability to blend genres and collaborate with international artists.
