102.9 KBLX $1,000 Dream Team Scholarship Winner Gets A Big Surprise
Bonneville, San Francisco, Ca., urban ac 102.9 KBLX Morning Dream Team awarded another Dream Team $1,000 Scholarship to Ms. Karris Brooks of Sacramento, California, courtesy of KBLX & The Black College Expo.
Ms. Brooks wrote a 500-word essay about ways she has improved her community. Karris spent hours planning and hosting parties for the parents and ill children at Shriner’s Hospital. She continues to volunteer at local hospitals with a focus on pediatrics. Karris is also the president of her school BSU.
Karris was in complete shock when it was announced she was the winner of the February 2018 Dream Team $1,000 Scholarship.
Dr. Theresa Price, the founder of THE BLACK COLLEGE EXPO and a recruitment officer from Valley Ford University in Georgia accepted Karis into the university on the spot, LIVE ON THE AIR at KBLX!
According to Elroy Smith, The Program Director of KBLX, “it is a moving experience to see an aspiring student in tears because of the $1,000 contribution toward her education. Our next $1,000 scholarship campaign will target adults who have decided to return to college or a trade school.” Karris will use her scholarship money towards tuition as she plans her college education around her future career as a journalist.
