Tragic Wrong-Way Crash on Hardy Toll Road Claims the Life of Florencio Ramirez

In the early hours of Saturday, March 8th, 2025, a heartbreaking tragedy unfolded on the Hardy Toll Road, resulting in the death of 45-year-old Florencio Ramirez. Ramirez, a dedicated father of four and husband to Sandra Ramirez, was tragically killed when a wrong-way driver struck his vehicle head-on. The fatal accident, which occurred just after 4:00 a.m., has left the family devastated and seeking justice for their beloved patriarch.

Justice Sought for Family After Father's Life Taken in Crash

The Family’s Devastating Loss

Florencio, who had been married to Sandra for 27 years, was a coordinator at Lionel Basel in La Porte, Texas. He was on his way to work that fateful morning when his life was taken. As the family tries to come to terms with their profound loss, Sandra recalls the final conversation she had with her husband the night before the crash. “He called me the night before on Friday. And he said, ‘Mom, I’m going to sleep, but I need your blessing. I gotta work tomorrow,'” Sandra said, recounting her last exchange with Florencio. Despite it being a Saturday, a day typically off for most workers, Florencio went to work as part of his commitment to providing for his family.

Sandra’s emotional account of the conversation further highlights the deep bond they shared. She expressed how she told Florencio to take care and be safe, unaware that this would be her final exchange with him. Florencio’s children, ranging in age from six to twenty, are now left to navigate life without their father, who had been the steady, reliable force in their home. Stephanie, his oldest child, revealed that just one month prior, her father had shared a frightening experience when he nearly encountered another wrong-way driver on the Hardy Toll Road. Ironically, the very tragedy that he feared would eventually strike him.

The Wrong-Way Driver: Jasmine Arteaga

The woman responsible for Florencio’s death, identified as 26-year-old Jasmine Arteaga, survived the crash. According to authorities, she had been driving the wrong way on the Hardy Toll Road when she collided head-on with Florencio’s vehicle. Reports from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office confirmed that Florencio’s vehicle was struck at high speed, and he died at the scene of the accident. In a tragic twist, Arteaga, despite being responsible for the crash, managed to walk away with only minor injuries.

Authorities later determined that Arteaga had a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.26, more than three times the legal limit, two hours after the crash. Her intoxication at the time of the crash has raised significant questions about her responsibility for the deadly accident. In the wake of the crash, the Ramirez family expressed outrage, with Sandra saying, “It’s not fair that she gets to live and walk away from this while my husband is gone.”

A Community in Mourning

Florencio’s loss has reverberated throughout his family and the community. Described as the “glue” that held his family together, Florencio was known for his unwavering dedication to his children and his work. He would often sacrifice sleep, waking up in the middle of the night to provide for his family, particularly during weekends. Florencio’s children are now left grappling with the absence of their father, and his wife, Sandra, is left to raise their four children alone. The profound emotional pain felt by the family is immeasurable, as they try to come to terms with a life without him.

The Family’s Plea for Justice

As the family mourns, they are calling for justice for Florencio, asking for accountability in the wake of the crash. Sandra, alongside her children, expressed their desire to see justice served to ensure that no other family has to experience the same heartbreak. “We want justice for my husband. I don’t want someone else to go through the same pain,” she said, her voice filled with both grief and determination.

The community is rallying behind the Ramirez family as they seek justice for Florencio’s untimely death. The family’s call for accountability reflects their hopes that the legal system will hold Arteaga accountable for her reckless and dangerous actions. For the Ramirez family, this tragedy is not just the loss of a loved one but also the loss of the man who provided and protected them. The impact of Florencio’s death is immeasurable, and his absence will forever be felt by those who loved him most.

The Ongoing Investigation

As authorities continue their investigation into the crash, Jasmine Arteaga remains in custody at the Harris County Jail. Her bond has been set at $250 million, and prosecutors are pursuing charges in connection with the fatal crash. The outcome of this case will determine whether justice is served for Florencio and his family. The Ramirez family’s fight for justice is just beginning, and they are determined to ensure that Florencio’s memory is honored and that no other family has to endure the pain they are experiencing.
