How To Stay Motivated During The Layoffs

As we all know, many industries have undergone many changes lately. In the music industry, with the labels and the radio corporations, I have not allowed much reporting on the changes because I like to keep our readers as motivated as possible. While I know the industry loves gossip, I’m not a fan of doom and gloom.

As I have previously stated, being in business for myself for almost 30 years has taught me many incredible life lessons, not just about business but about life. I honestly feel like I am a statistician, but not with sample populations, but an actual population.

If You Want to Keep Living, KEEP WORKING!!!!

Over the years, at least 90% of the industry deaths I’ve seen involved people waiting for something that wasn’t coming. Most of these people got booted out of the industry for whatever reason, and they sat idly by, waiting for another opportunity.

At some point, they started calling people to vent and they felt their calls were not returned or they were ignored. They would get depressed, disconnect, get sick, and die. That sounds harsh, but I’ve seen it enough times to know there is a great truth to it. I started to realize people were not dying of a disease or illness. They were dying of broken hearts, which appeared to be the foray into the path of illness.

We work in a very progressive, fast-paced industry.

We also need to understand it’s also a youth-driven industry but with benefits to older industry people who are into tech. I am beyond floored at the number of industry people still not into AI, even people 35 and up. Trends are everything, and you can’t just follow them; you have to embrace and utilize them. Whenever you open up or turn on your computer, you have the blessing of having the entire world in front of you, even if you are working in your underwear. Why wouldn’t you take advantage of that?

What Is It That You Have Always Wanted to Do?

Dreams never die; they just get put on hold. If you are 65 and you want to be a gymnast, it may not be a good idea to go out into the streets and do multiple summersaults to see if you still have it. The only thing you WILL have is a broke back, but you can certainly be around gymnasts. Open the door to your ignored joy and take this time to treat yourself to what you have been missing.

Be the Bearer of GOOD News

When you reach out to industry people, don’t ask for anything (right away) but offer something instead. Compliment them and talk about something uplifting; most importantly, follow their lead. If they want to gossip, let them, but make sure you keep your connection positive, and they are more likely to return your calls. They know that you are looking for work, and by keeping your name and presence known, they are more likely to think of you when an opportunity comes along.

It’s Easier to Find Work… When you ARE Working

Notice I said “working,” not a job. There are things you could be doing that can keep you busy and put money in your pocket. The universe likes progression and what’s moving. It is impossible to have a destination and drive forward while focused on the rear-view mirror. The greater view is the windshield and the road ahead. Hard times don’t last; but strong people do.

Steer Clear of Negative People

I say this from my own experience. I was once a negative person until I watched my resources dry up. I will discuss how you can be more positive in the near future, but people like to be lifted up, not knocked down. The people you might be calling HAVE to keep their spirits high if they want to be progressive. As previously stated, the road ahead has a greater opportunity and view. If YOU don’t like to be around negative people, why would people want to be around you when you are negative?

Learn a New Skill on YouTube

YouTube is an AMAZING resource for learning new skills. It has been invaluable to me, from building my Shopify store to testing different AI systems to coding and SEO for my websites. I’m a progressive deep thinker, but anyone can learn anything on YouTube. It is just under Google for being the biggest search engine online.

Use Your EQUITY in Your Experience

For me, using my experience equity has allowed me to consistently reinvent myself. I rebranded my business after 28 years, and while I was a bit intimidated by the process, it had to be done. I was bored shitless with the previous business, and I’m reinvigorated with TheIndustry.Biz, and the results have been nothing short of incredible blessings. Don’t be afraid to reinvent yourself.

Financial Benefits

Many people think Section 8 is for lazy people who live in shitty apartments with a bunch of kids and boyfriends on probation who secretly live there playing video games all day. That is a fallacy. While you are not working, you might qualify and be able to use the program where you live, or your state or federal sites like HUD may have benefits for you while you are not working. Check your state resources as well. The WORST thing you can do is NOT plan and wait. Take action and get your money straight NOW!

Finally, nothing will fall into your lap, but you can certainly put on your baseball glove and run and catch a ball. The worst thing you can do in these times is sit still—move or continue to BE moved.
