NAB Diversity Symposium: Media, Entertainment, Tech

The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) is hosting its fourth annual NAB Diversity Symposium April 14 – 15 at the 2024 NAB Show in Las Vegas. This year’s symposium remains open to all attendees.

NAB Diversity Symposium: Media, Entertainment, Tech

The program features a new structure that caters to the diversity of the NAB Show audience with individual sessions focusing on inclusion across the wider media, entertainment and technology industries.

The programming is designed for all attendees – broadcasters, media production professionals, content creators, AI enthusiasts, technology professionals, storytellers and diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) advocates.

“As we convene for the fourth annual NAB Diversity Symposium, fostering inclusive workplaces and advancing diversity within the broadcast industry is more important than ever,” said NAB Chief Diversity Officer Michelle Duke.

“This year’s symposium is about empowering organizations to not just meet but exceed their diversity and inclusion goals. We are providing attendees with the tools, knowledge and strategies needed to cultivate diverse talent, create inclusive environments and drive innovation.”

The program’s lineup promises to elevate the event to new heights, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with thought leaders across various fields.

Speakers include Cassandra Freeman, who is known for her role as Aunt Viv in Peacock’s “Bel Air,” and is also the co-founder of Creatricity, a platform that simplifies the process of finding and hiring vetted, reliable, and diverse talent and crew for television and film projects.

Arun Sundararajan, global expert in technology and business, author and professor at NYU, and Joe Strechay, TV and film producer and blindness consultant on Apple TV+ series “See,” are also set to deliver compelling presentations that will leave a lasting impression on attendees.

Diversity Symposium Sessions Include:

Fireside Chat – D&I in Sports Media and Broadcasting: Redefining Athlete-driven Content will inspire dialogue, share best practices and catalyze action towards a more inclusive and equitable future for sports media and broadcasting, driven by the empowerment of minority athletes and voices through ownership and representation.

Leveraging Generative AI for Diversity and Inclusion: Balancing Benefits and Risks will provide insights into the potential pitfalls of relying too heavily on AI technologies and the importance of maintaining human oversight and accountability.

Empowering Diversity: Content Creators as DEI Changemakers explores how diverse content creators are taking matters into their own hands by shaping narratives, representing marginalized voices and redefining storytelling conventions.

Leadership Insights: Why Top Broadcast Executives Are Staying Committed to DEI features the heads of Beasley Media Group, Hearst Television, Latino Media Network and Circle City Broadcasting who will speak on the latest trends driving their commitment to DEI in the rapidly evolving media landscape.

Behind the Scenes: How Inclusivity in Media Production Impacts Creative Output will ensure your production crews can work together to achieve the goals and objectives of your business and, as a result, maximize creative output.

If you have additional questions, you can reach out to Lesley Peña, director of diversity, at [email protected].
