Johnny Green to Be Honored by Columbia NAACP at Annual Gala

Columbia radio personality “The World Famous” Johnny Green will be honored later this month for his decades of community service. The longtime Kiss 103.1/WLXC-FM host is set to receive recognition from the Columbia Branch of the NAACP during its 38th Annual Freedom Fund Awards Gala. The event takes place Friday, September 26, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, located at 1100 Lincoln Street.

Johnny Green to Be Honored by Columbia NAACP at Annual Gala

This year’s gala carries the theme “Remembering the Legacy.” Green will join other honorees including Michael Spencer, Rev. Thurmond Bowens, Jr., Tiffany Wider, Rep. Leon Howard, and Dr. John H. Dozier.

Known across Columbia as one of the city’s most recognizable voices, Green has been a fixture on the airwaves for more than 25 years. He hosts weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Kiss 103.1 and also leads the station’s award-winning “Saturday Night Juke Joint” program each weekend at 7:00 p.m.

Beyond the microphone, Green has built a reputation for giving back. For two decades, he and Kiss 103.1 have supported the Annual Dr. James R. Clark Memorial Sickle Cell Walk, which honors families affected by sickle cell disease and raises funds for the James R. Clark Memorial Scholarship Fund.

He has also lent his time and platform to causes such as the Alex English – Let’s Share Foundation, RCCASA Foundation, Juneteenth Festival, National Association of College Deans, Registrars, and Admissions Officers, and SC Uplift Community Outreach.

The evening’s keynote speaker is Rev. Nelson B. Rivers III, Pastor of Charity Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston and co-president of the Charleston Area Justice Ministry. Rev. Rivers is nationally known for his civil rights advocacy, with appearances on CNN, NPR, and 60 Minutes. He is also a recipient of the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.
