Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month: Know your risk! (Video)

**November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month: Learn Your Risk!**

As November ushers in Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month, a local nonprofit, the Sky Foundation, is ramping up efforts to raise awareness and fund crucial research aimed at early detection and treatment of this often-fatal disease. With a mission to educate families about the risks associated with pancreatic cancer, the organization is gearing up for a special virtual event next week.

“We’re excited to engage the community and provide valuable insights into the importance of early detection,” said Annie Dalton Flores, executive director of the Sky Foundation. “Pancreatic cancer has one of the highest mortality rates among all cancers, largely due to late diagnosis. Our focus is on education and funding research that could change that.”

The upcoming virtual event will feature prominent voices in the medical community, including Dr. Andrea Murad, a clinical assistant professor and genetic counselor at Michigan Medicine. Dr. Murad will discuss the genetic factors associated with pancreatic cancer risk and the significance of genetic counseling in identifying at-risk individuals.

“Understanding your family history and having conversations about genetic predispositions can be life-saving,” Dr. Murad emphasized. “We can help families navigate their risks and take proactive steps toward early detection.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with experts, ask questions, and access resources that empower them to take charge of their health. In addition, donations made during the event will directly support ongoing research initiatives conducted by the Sky Foundation.

As the community rallies together this November, it’s vital to remember that awareness can lead to early intervention. Join the Sky Foundation in spreading the word: Knowing your risk could save a life. For more information about the event and how to participate, visit the Sky Foundation’s website.
