**Shooting Claims Life Behind Detroit School: Unlicensed Barbershop Incident Raises Safety Concerns**

A man was shot and killed on Friday during an incident at an unlicensed barbershop located in the rear of Charles Wright Academy of Arts and Sciences, according to Detroit police. The tragic event unfolded around 5 p.m. on November 14, 2025, at the unapproved business situated at 19299 Berg.

Police identified the victim as a man in his late twenties, who succumbed to his injuries shortly after the shooting. The suspect, who is also reportedly known to the victim, remains at large, raising concerns about community safety. Detroit Police Captain Matthew Bray addressed the media on the scene, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

“It’s troubling that this incident occurred in a place considered a community hub for students and families,” Bray stated. “Our investigation indicates that the barbershop was operating without the necessary permits, and this raises significant safety issues.”

The barbershop, which had been running after-hours as part of an unauthorized operation managed by a member of the school’s janitorial staff, highlights the risks associated with off-the-books businesses that lack oversight. Neighbors expressed their shock and sadness at the violent crime occurring in a neighborhood typically known for its sense of community.

“We never expected something like this to happen here. Our kids go to school just a few steps away,” said one local resident who wished to remain anonymous. As the police continue their investigation, community members are calling for increased oversight and support to ensure that students and families feel safe in their neighborhood.

With the suspect still at large, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
