As the holiday season approaches, the city of Detroit prepares to light up with festive cheer, starting with its majestic Christmas tree. This beloved tradition, however, begins long before the first snowflakes fall, deep in the forested landscapes of northern Michigan. Each year, a process steeped in care and expertise sets the stage for the city’s get-together.
Marty Emery, the dedicated tree farmer from Dutchman Tree Farms, has been the city’s chosen Christmas tree hunter for the past 22 years. This year, he has selected a stunning 62-foot tree from private land in Mesick, Michigan, a decision that reflects both his keen eye for perfection and commitment to quality.
The tree is harvested by a skilled team, ensuring that it remains pristine as it makes its journey to Detroit. This year, the tree traveled an impressive 200 miles to its new home in Campus Martius Park, where it will soon take center stage in the city’s holiday celebrations.
Once it arrives, the tree undergoes meticulous decorations, preparing to dazzle residents and visitors alike. With a history spanning decades, this annual tradition not only symbolizes the holiday spirit but also strengthens the bond within the community. It’s a time for gathering and creating memories that will last long beyond the season.
