Vivian and Ray Chew Illuminate New York with Music, Unity, and Faith
On Saturday, December 14, Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage was transformed into a beacon of inspiration and celebration as the fifth annual “Night of Inspiration”delivered an unforgettable evening of soul-stirring music.
Under the direction of renowned music director, producer, and composer Ray Chew, co-produced alongside his wife and business partner Vivian Scott Chew, the sold-out event captivated audiences, reaffirming its place as one of Carnegie Hall’s most cherished traditions.
The evening’s lineup was a testament to the power of music to inspire and unite. Legendary performers and contemporary icons alike graced the stage, delivering electrifying performances. The lineup included Grammy-winning powerhouse Regina Belle, gospel icon Pastor Shirley Caesar, and the dynamic duo Erica Campbell and her viral sensation daughter, Krista Campbell.
The night reached new heights with performances by gospel luminaries Brian Courtney Wilson, Bishop Hezekiah Walker, and Kierra Sheard-Kelly, as well as a historic moment: the presentation of the inaugural Night of Inspiration Agape Award to The Winans, honoring the 36th anniversary of their Grammy-winning album “The Winans Live at Carnegie Hall.”
A heartfelt tribute to The Winans brought the house down, featuring performances by Isaac Carree, Melvin Crispell III, Juan Winans, Dave Hollister, and the iconic Doug E. Fresh. The stellar roster also included international violinist Olen Cesari, multi-talented artist Cory Henry, and R&B sensation Rahsaan Patterson.
The Chews highlighted their commitment to the next generation through a youth showcase featuring students from Pine Forge Academy and alumni of their Power 2 Inspire Foundation. Adding to the grandeur, a 150-voice multicultural choir and a 64-piece orchestra, conducted by Ray Chew with precision and passion, filled the historic hall with breathtaking harmonies.
“We are beyond excited to have produced our fifth Night of Inspiration,” said Ray and Vivian Chew. “To celebrate this milestone at Carnegie Hall, surrounded by so many extraordinary artists and an incredible audience, is a blessing and an honor.”
This year’s celebration builds on a 15-year partnership between the Chews and Carnegie Hall, marked by innovative and boundary-pushing productions. From tributes to Motown and Stevie Wonder to citywide and outdoor performances, Ray and Vivian Chew have consistently used their platform to unite diverse musical traditions and communities.
As the final notes resonated and the audience rose to its feet in thunderous applause, “A Night of Inspiration” once again proved to be a powerful celebration of music, faith, and legacy.
