SRI Records is pleased to announce that the label has acquired the exclusive rights, through a representative of Jackie Wilson’s estate, to release all of Wilson’s original recordings on SRI Records. In addition the label has also been granted the rights to all of the early Ike & Tina Turner recordings, a wonderful lost Marvin Gaye album and the Bob Marley catalog. CEO Shelly Liebowitz, expressed his enthusiasm on the release of these historic recordings, “Jackie Wilson was an important figure in shaping R&B, early Ike & Tina Turner helped shape Rock & Roll, Bob Marley was ‘Master’ of Reggae music and Marvin Gaye brought sexuality to R&B. We are very proud to be able bring this music to a new generation of music lovers. All of the songs sound as fresh today as they did when they were originally released. The recordings have been re-mastered and sound terrific. These recordings will be released early this summer but fans can listen to selected tracks on our website. We hope that fans will check out these songs, among others that are on our website that you can listen to for free.” Jackie Wilson, one of the most important and transformative artists in popular music, was both a gifted, dynamic, performer and an innovator in American Blues and Soul genres. Wilson’s prolific career and world-renown showmanship earned him two Grammy Hall of Fame inductions and the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame induction. Marvin Gaye brought a smooth sensual style to R&B singing that earned him the titles “Prince of Motown” and “Prince of Soul”. From his first hit, a duet with Tammi Terrell on “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” to his solo smash hits including “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)”, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, “Sexual Healing”, “What’s Goin’ On” and many others, Gaye helped establish the Motown brand as the powerhouse of R&B and soul music until his untimely death in 1984. Ike’s careful stage-crafting with his first band Kings of Rhythm led to the eventual transformation when he taught an aspiring backup singer the stage act that became Ike & Tina Turner. The group took the music world by storm, with both Ike’s originals and his highly inventive arrangements of famous cover songs that defined their careers, their sound and spectacular stage performances. This is the band that gave Tina Turner her introduction to the music world and the Grammy winning duo experienced hits with such songs as “Proud Mary”, “I Want To Take You Higher” and many others.
