In an unusual turn of events, an alligator has been rescued from a Detroit home and is now set to move to a sanctuary in Florida. The story began when a woman discovered the reptile in her late son’s bedroom following his tragic death. On November 18, she contacted animal rescuer Mark Rosenthal of Animal Magic for assistance.
Upon arriving at the home, Rosenthal was surprised to find the alligator confined in a six-foot aquarium, which offered little space for the creature to move. “It was a dire situation for Navi-gator,” Rosenthal explained. “Alligators need room to swim and thrive, and this setup was far from ideal.”
Rosenthal swiftly transported the alligator to his sanctuary, where it could receive proper care and be housed in a more suitable environment. The gator, affectionately named ‘Navi-gator,’ has been adjusting to life at the sanctuary, and Rosenthal has taken to educating the public about the needs of reptiles in captivity.
In a recent appearance on Local 4 Live, Rosenthal showcased Navi-gator, discussing the animal’s journey to recovery. “It’s critical for reptiles to be in habitats that mimic their natural environment,” he emphasized, urging potential pet owners to consider the responsibility involved.
As Navi-gator prepares for a new chapter in Florida, many are hopeful that this alligator will not only find a proper home but also become a beacon of awareness regarding exotic pet ownership.
