Are Gay Organizations Targeting Black Male Celebrities?

width=Over the years the impact of LGBT organizations like GLAAD have become apparent. Media Take Out calls LBGT organizations “The Gay Mafia” and it’s no secret amongst all celebrities that the easiest way to destroy your own career is to make an anti gay remark.

Rappers who once tossed words like “Faggot,” “Sissy,” “Bitch Nigga,” “Soft” etc around more times than saying the word “it” have completely eliminated any negative reference to gays from their material for the legitimate fear of career death. It’s no secret that in the black community, homosexuality is still viewed as the lowest form of life especially amongst groups of black men and the black church.

The greatest insult one black man can give to another one is to call him a “faggot.” In addition, the vicious cellphone taped beating of 20-year-old Brandon White (pictured above) in Atlanta this past weekend by as many as eight black men in a crime-ridden area of Atlanta has been posted online bringing worldwide attention to homophobia in the black community.

The incident certainly offers credence to the often perceived notion that black men are extremely homophobic. While the subject of homosexuality seems to be widely accepted or not discussed on the white side of show businesses, there have been several incidents where black men have made remarks about gays that has either given them unwanted national attention and pressure or destroyed their careers outright.

National figures like Ministers TD Jakes state gay people are “broken” and “ex gay” minister Donnie McClurkin calls gay people “Vampires.” Others from the church who have not only spoken out against gays but have organized rallies and protest have been publicly humiliated when their own dirty laundry was exposed.

For years TD Jakes was staunchly opposed to gays, gay rights and homosexuality until the subject hit home when his son was arrested in a park soliciting oral sex from a white male police officer. Jakes has since remained quite on the subject of gays but his church has recently become involved in HIV prevention almost 30 years after crisis.

Eddie Long also marched in Atlanta against gays and gay marriage but the mega church leader was humiliated by a gay scandal involving five men who claim the recently crowned King took advantage of them, their families and the church member funds after he had sex with them while pretending to show concern as a father figure then lavi width=

Cleo Manago Outs GLAAD As “Blackophobic” and Questions Whether GLAAD Has the Credibility to Bring Down a Litany of Black MenMango is an unlikely candidate to state gay organizations ARE targeting black straight men. The outspoken activist who represents GAY Black men states he questions the intent of organizations like GLAAD when it comes to black straight men and he has harsh words for the organization.

“As the founder and national organizer of the Black Men’s Xchange (BMX), the nation’s oldest and largest community-based movement for same gender loving (SGL), gay-identifying and bisexual African-descended males and allies, the actions of GLAAD raise great concern to me.

A predominantly White organization, GLAAD may want to consider changing their name to the GLKKK as I continue to find many of their actions and reactions “Blackophobic” in nature. This new scenario targeting Roland S. Martin is just another case in point!…

I believe that GLAAD, or the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, has been using the media to lynch a disproportionate number of well known Black men in recent years. These men include Tracy Morgan, Isaiah Washington, Kobe Bryant, Barrack Obama, and T.I. along with several others. We can now add TV ONE host and CNN contributor Roland S. Martin to the list.”

Mango’s message is a bit unclear. As an activist for black gay men, is he saying he WANTS straight black men to be able to openly say words like “Faggot” in the media? Let’s explore what some black male celebrities have said and let you be the judge of their intent… go t the next page…

Roland Martin

width=“If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!”

The comment coming from someone of Martin’s stature was just stupid and had he given it a second though before he sent it out he would have realized the possible consequences. Now that he is suspended, his greatest hope is certainly that CNN does not cave in under the pressure and fire him, he won’t make the mistake again. He is safe with TV One and Tom Joyner , neither will take action

Isaiah Washington

 width=

Washington referred to former “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star T.R. Knight as a “faggot” during an on-set altercation with Patrick Dempsey
It’s most unfortunate that Isaiah made the mistake of calling his co-star out not once but TWICE. His career is over because of it and he lost his rented home in Venice along with his spot on Grey’s Anatomy. Little has been heard of him since and he’s a great actor. He went above and beyond the call of duty to make good on his mistake even recording a PSA about accepting gay people but all to no avail. His career could not survive the ordeal.

Tracy Morgan

tracey morgan radiofactscom“If a gay person can take a dick, they can take a joke”Members of GLAAD and other gay organizations failed to see Tracey Morgan’s humor with that line and several others during a comedy performance. Rapper T.I admitted he thought the joke was funny and responded that “Gay people are too sensitive” when the organizations responded to the perceived gay bevy of insults Morgan gave on this particular night.

Gay people at the event state that Morgan’s rant was not in jest and several people walked out during his tirade against gays but that only comes from one witness. Tracy Morgan probably didn’t have the intent that he was accused of when he made the statements. Perhaps this is one that went too far.

Tim Hardaway

‘I Hate Gay People’ “First of all I wouldn’t want him on my team,” said Hardaway. ” “Second of all, if he was on my team I would really distance myself from him because I don’t think that’s right and I don’t think he should be in the locker room when we’re in the locker room. I let it be known I don’t like gay people. I don’t like to be around gay people. I’m homophobic. It shouldn’t be in the world, in the United States, I don’t like it.”

Is it possible that Hardaway could be less evasive and get to the point? Hardaway’s comments certainly echo what many other black men think and the comments came on the heels of a groundbreaking revelation made by former player John Amaechi, who became the first professional basketball player to openly identify himself as gay.

The statements completely destroyed his post game career and killed all of his endorsements. He even had to removed his name from the last thing he had left, a South Florida car wash, just so that he could stay in business. Hardaway admitted he lost everything and is struggling to find work to feed his family.

Hardaway admitted he went through counseling for his homophobia and he is now a speaker for Gay Rights. For those reading this, it has to be hard not to find humor in the irony. So we ask again… are the black men being unfairly targeted or should these comments just be ignored?
