Introduction
After almost 40 years, two brothers have been arrested and charged in connection with multiple cold case rapes in DeKalb and Fulton Counties.
DNA Evidence Leads to Break in the Case
Recent DNA testing by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) led to the identification and arrest of 62-year-old David Briny and 59-year-old Jeffrey Briny. The testing was conducted on previously untested rape kits.
Charges and Indictments
Both men were indicted by a DeKalb County grand jury on multiple counts of rape, kidnapping, and aggravated assault. Their alleged crimes date back to 1986 and 1987.
Details of the Assaults
In March 1986, two armed men forced their way into an apartment in the Brookhaven area, holding five college students at gunpoint and raping two women. In October of the same year, two armed men forced their way into an apartment on Buford Highway and sexually assaulted two women living there.
Link to Additional Cases
Officials have linked David Briny to several other cold cases from 1986 and 1987, including multiple sexual assaults in Fulton County. Authorities believe there may be more victims and are working to identify additional cases that fit the same pattern.
