CBS Atlanta is making a bold leap into the future of news broadcasting with the introduction of its cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) news studio, set to launch on September 15. This groundbreaking development marks the first time AR/VR technology will be used for local news in the region. The newscasts, airing at 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, will be anchored by Jobina Fortson-Evans, an Emmy Award-winning journalist with deep ties to Atlanta.

Fortson-Evans brings more than a decade of experience to CBS Atlanta and is committed to telling stories that reflect the heart, complexity, and resilience of the community. “It’s an incredible honor to lead this groundbreaking newsroom,” she said. “I’m deeply committed to sharing stories that matter to the people of Atlanta.”

Before joining CBS Atlanta, Fortson-Evans launched and hosted the daily lifestyle show ATL Live on Atlanta News First and has a rich history in broadcasting, with past roles at KGO-TV/ABC7 News in San Francisco, WAVE 3 News in Louisville, and WMDT in Salisbury, Md. With the launch of this innovative news studio, CBS Atlanta joins an exclusive group of CBS-owned stations, becoming the ninth to adopt AR/VR technology, alongside stations in cities like New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The technology transforms traditional news delivery by providing immersive, visually rich experiences, allowing viewers to engage with stories on a deeper level. The fully immersive format enables more interactive storytelling, bringing complex topics like weather and civic issues to life with hyper-realistic simulations.

This new studio sets a high bar for local news, offering viewers a dynamic and accessible experience while maintaining the integrity of trusted journalism. CBS Atlanta aims to redefine how local news connects with its audience by delivering engaging, impactful content that resonates with the diverse Atlanta community.
