The Television Bureau of Advertising (TVB) awarded Cox Media Group (CMG) with the first-ever Broadcaster DE+I Leadership Award during a celebration yesterday at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Plaza.
TVB’s DE+I Leadership Award acknowledges organizations and individuals who have demonstrated a profound commitment to embracing diversity, advancing equity, and fostering an inclusive environment.
“We’re honored to be recognized by TVB for our diversity, equity and inclusion commitments,” said Aisha Thompkins, CMG’s Director of DE+I. “Our efforts are driven by our belief that DE+I helps foster innovation and generate strong business results.”
Within the last two years, CMG created a new DE+I director role and hired Thompkins; rolled out purposeful guidelines to bolster diversity hiring and leverage university and collegiate partnerships; launched business resource groups fostering inclusion and allyship; introduced the Jovita Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund in partnership with the National Association of Black Journalists (“NABJ”); launched a mentoring program for future leaders; and made DE+I a standard element of its business planning.
CMG also rolled out CMG Gets Real across its TV and radio stations to foster necessary and sometimes difficult conversations within the communities CMG serves.
Topics have ranged from housing disparities and income inequality to the community-law enforcement relationship and more.
CMG received the NAB Leadership Foundation’s prestigious Celebration of Service to America Award last year for the positive impact CMG Gets Real has had across communities.
