Cumulus Media (NASDAQ: CMLS) announces that Cynthia Alston Bell, Senior Marketing Consultant for Cumulus Media in Charleston, SC, has been selected to receive a Martin Luther King, Jr. Portrait Award for 2023, recognizing outstanding service to the community.
State Representative Wendell Gilliard established the Martin Luther King, Jr. Portrait Awards in 1998 to recognize local community leaders who exercise the values and spirit of community service embodied by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
State Representative Gilliard will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his legacy of service as he honors Bell and her fellow Portrait Award recipients on Tuesday, January 24th at 11:00 am at the Charleston Music Hall, 37 John Street, in downtown Charleston. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Portrait Awards will include local school, community, city, and state officials.
Bell, a 33-year sales and marketing executive for Cumulus Charleston, has a passion for helping others, with a focus on helping the underserved in her community.
Bell is a member and former President of the Summerville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and Regional Coordinator of the Arts and Letters Committee for the South Atlantic Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and currently serves as a member of the Auxiliary to the Charleston Country Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association.
She is also an Advisory Board member of Black Expo, Marketing Coordinator for Closing the Gap in Healthcare, Inc., an Honorary Commander for Joint Base Charleston, and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Central Missionary Baptist Church in Summerville.
In addition, Bell has served as a member of the Boards of Trustees for community organizations including the Charleston Trident Urban League, My Sister’s House, and the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
Bell was also previously First Vice-President of the Coalition of Minority Leaders in Higher Education. A popular local inspirational speaker, Bell is a native of Givhans, SC, and holds a B.S. degree in Social Welfare/Sociology from South Carolina State University. She is married to Dr. Thaddeus John Bell and has one child, Taylor Alston.
