Geraldine Johnson, a 59-year-old resident of Harper Woods, has been charged by Prosecutor Kym Worthy in connection with a fatal crash that resulted in the death of Janice Bauer, a 67-year-old resident of Grosse Pointe Park.
The incident occurred on Friday, June 2, at 7:36 a.m. Johnson was situated at the intersection of Griswold and West Congress streets in Detroit at the time of the crash. According to officials, she made a left turn onto Griswold Street and tragically struck Janice Bauer, who was crossing the street at a green light. The impact proved fatal, and despite the arrival of emergency medical services, Bauer succumbed to her injuries.
Geraldine Johnson has been charged with one count of moving violation causing death. Prosecutor Kym Worthy expressed the tragic nature of the case, emphasizing that Janice Bauer lost her life due to the alleged actions of Johnson, who was operating a city bus that struck her.
On June 14, Johnson appeared for arraignment at the 36th District Court, where she was granted a $25,000 cash bond. As part of her bond conditions, she has been placed under house arrest and required to wear a GPS tether.
