A fatally shot man was found dead in a vehicle with a three-year-old boy on Friday night, police said.
Around 8 p.m. on Friday, Houston officers believe that the incident took place, KHOU 11 News reported.
The victim was driving in West Houston to meet someone, possibly the shooter. Somehow the victim and the shooter knew each other, police suspect.
KHOU was told by responding officers that the victim’s body still had one foot on the vehicle’s parking brake. The toddler was looked after by police, who stuck around to ensure the youngster was cared for. One lieutenant did off-handedly refer to the victim as the boy’s father while addressing the media. However, the relationship the victim had with the child still remains unclear.
“Seeing this happen, and he’s possibly going to have to grow up with that,” Houston Police Department Commander Trey Coleman said. “Definitely a devastating thing.”
A physical description of the alleged shooter is currently being put together by police while surveillance footage from the area around the shooting is searched.
Investigators on the scene noted that the child was unharmed. According to Fox 26 Houston, eventually, police took him into custody.
“The child’s OK. Just shook up,” said Lt. Larry Crowson, according to the Houston Chronicle. “And he probably saw his dad killed.”
