BTB Savage, 26, an aspiring rapper whose legal name was Darrell Gentry, was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in the River Oaks area of Houston, TX. this past Thursday. He recently appeared on the popular VladTV (see video), where he explains how the murder of a man who tried to rob him took place.
His mother, Bernita Ward, believes that violence and retaliation led to his murder and that her son’s online persona did not reflect who he truly was.
Gentry had served in the military for four years and was a proud father to a 4-year-old son. In February, he believed he would be featured in a song, but instead, a group attempted to rob him at his apartment in San Antonio.
Gentry and his girlfriend fought off the intruder, and he spoke about the incident in a now-viral interview with VLAD-TV (see below).
In the interview, Gentry described how he instructed his then-girlfriend to shoot the alleged intruder while pleading for help.
Tragically, the aspiring rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting in Houston after posting about the incident on social media earlier that day.
His mother spoke out, stating that while her son did not deserve to die, she had warned him to be cautious about his social media presence and media interviews. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
“I said take that off social media,” Bernita Ward said. “Let his family mourn in peace. They were taunting my son, though, telling him they were going to kill the family, make his momma cry, and kill his son. I told my son, ‘Don’t respond. Let it go.’ But their family member came to rob my son.”
