The cause of death for ‘Friday’ star Anthony Johnson, 55, was revealed. According to the medical examiner, Johnson died due to years of hard drinking. His cause of death was something his wife wanted to share with people.
TMZ obtained the autopsy report, citing the cause of death as “chronic ethanol use.” The report also stated that the manner of death was natural.
When officials ran a toxicology test, the document stated that no alcohol or common drugs of abuse were found in his system. According to the coroner’s office, no signs of pneumonia were detected, but the “Friday” star had recently tested positive for COVID-19.
Johnson’s widow, Lexis, created a foundation in his name and says his legacy will live on through the foundation. Lexis made Johnson’s cause of death public to warn others about the dangers of drinking alcohol.
Volunteering at church to talk to teens about the lethal effects of alcohol is now Lexis’ mission. Other close friends of Lexis have lost their lives to alcohol in addition to her husband. She hopes Johnson’s legacy will motivate others to stop drinking.
TMZ reported that Johnson was found unresponsive last year at a store in LA. After being rushed to the hospital, he was pronounced dead.
His most famous role came from playing Ezal in the original “Friday.” He also had roles in classic films such as “Menace II Society,” “House Party,” and “The Players Club.
The death of Johnson was a shock. Rapper Offset helped to cover the funeral costs for his family.
