**Detroit Community Unites to Triple Winter Coat Donations in “Operation: Cozy” Drive**
Detroit, MI – In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the annual “Operation: Cozy” winter coat drive at Kadesh Baptist Church exceeded all expectations, collecting over three times the number of coats compared to last year. The initiative, part of Local 4’s “Go 4 It” campaign in collaboration with the Center for Youth & Families, showcased Detroit’s unwavering commitment to caring for its youth this winter.
On a chilly November afternoon, residents flocked to the church, eager to donate warm clothing and accessories for those in need. Among the highlights of the day was the incredible contribution of 77 handmade scarves and hats by local artisan Debbie from Dearborn, which added a personal touch to the large haul of coats.
The drive’s success was met with enthusiastic praise from key organizers. COO Elizabeth Richardson acknowledged the impact of community-driven efforts, stating, “The generosity we see here today serves as a reminder of our shared responsibility to care for each other, especially the children in our community.” CEO Jeri Fisher echoed Richardson’s sentiment, emphasizing the importance of keeping Detroit’s youth warm during the harsh winter months: “These donations are more than just clothing; they are symbols of hope and compassion for families facing challenges.”
With distribution scheduled for Thanksgiving week, the initiative is set to provide hundreds of children and families with essential winter gear. The collaborative effort demonstrated at Kadesh Baptist Church not only aims to keep children warm but also strengthens the ties that bind the Detroit community together. As winter approaches, the community proves that unity can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most.
