Go 4 It: Empowering New Moms in Detroit

Detroit is welcoming a new wave of support for mothers through the Hitha Healing House, a nonprofit organization founded by Kayana Sessoms. Dedicated to providing holistic services, the Hitha Healing House focuses on the well-being of expectant and new mothers with offerings such as therapeutic massage, spine alignment, and lactation support.

Since its inception, the community-focused initiative has flourished, currently boasting 30 active members who benefit from the organization’s emphasis on comprehensive care. The services provided are completely free, making it an invaluable resource for mothers who may otherwise struggle to access the support they need.

Sessoms, who experienced personal loss, turned her grief into a driving force behind her mission to uplift others. Her vision not only prioritizes immediate care but extends to more permanent solutions, highlighting plans to offer temporary housing for unhoused mothers in the near future. This innovative approach is designed to create a nurturing environment where mothers can thrive.

Looking ahead, the Hitha Healing House aims to launch a postpartum soup line in 2026, emphasizing nutritional support for new mothers during a critical time. To further connect with the community and showcase their initiatives, an open house is scheduled for December 2, inviting the public to learn more about their services and support offerings.

As the Hitha Healing House continues to grow, it stands as a testament to the power of community, compassion, and holistic care in nurturing Detroit’s new mothers. This empowering initiative is paving the way for a healthier, more supported generation of mothers and their children.
