A gruesome ‘arrangement’ caused a 36-year-old Australian man to amputate the leg of a 66-year old man with his own buzzsaw. As a gory favor, the victim, who later died, may have asked for the amputation.
The 36-year-old and the 66-year old knew each other. According to Australian outlets, police said, the two drove to a park in Innisfail and said under a tree together shortly before 4 a.m. The amputation began about 20 minutes later. The younger man cut the leg off of the older man just below the knee with the circular saw.
The saw belonged to the older man, police said. The younger man, John Yalu, a Vanuatu national, has been charged with murder.
According to police, Yalu fled on foot after helping the older man get back into the car. Later, passersby found the older gentleman in the street. He died in the early hours of Saturday morning on Fitzgerald Esplanade at Innisfail, North Queensland. He was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS services. The nature of the relationship between the two men remains unclear, Detective Active Inspector Gary Hunter told reporters.
“Police also believe there was an arrangement between the two people for the amputation of the leg,” Hunter said.
“During my 34 years as a police officer, I’ve never experienced a situation as we are presented with here.”
Police said the 66-year old man paid Yalu $5,000 to cut his leg off.
