Gunfight Caught on Camera: Man Shot in Head on Southwest Side (video)

In a shocking turn of events, a quiet southwest-side neighborhood in San Antonio was rocked by a violent shootout on a Saturday night. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 PM at the intersection of Flair Drive and Kilkenny near Southwest Loop 410, left a 21-year-old man fighting for his life after being shot in the head. The alarming chain of events was captured on video, with concerned neighbors sharing footage of the gunfire that erupted in their normally peaceful community.

The Beginning of the Violent Incident

The violence began with a white truck driving into the intersection of Flair and Kilkenny, followed shortly by gunfire. According to police reports, more than a dozen shots were fired during this initial burst of violence, but it remains unclear whether the truck was directly involved in the shootout. Moments later, a second vehicle arrived at the same intersection, and it was then that a more intense exchange of gunfire took place. In the video captured by local residents’ door cameras, viewers can see the shots being fired from the second car, with more than 20 rounds ringing out into the night.

A Neighbor’s Terrifying Experience

One local resident, who asked not to be identified, recalled the frightening moments that followed. Her mother, who had been at home at the time of the shooting, witnessed the chaos unfold from the window. The neighbor described how her mother saw the two vehicles engaged in a back-and-forth exchange of gunfire, prompting her to quickly flee for safety. The fear was palpable as the sounds of gunshots reverberated through the neighborhood, forcing the family to take cover in their home.

When the morning came, the extent of the danger became evident. The neighbor’s mother discovered a bullet hole in her vehicle’s driver-side door, which was a stark reminder of how close the violence had come to their lives. Though no one was physically harmed in their home, the sight of the bullet hole served as a chilling reminder of how precarious their safety had been.

The Aftermath and Ongoing Investigation

The shooting victim, a 21-year-old man, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the head. Police say the suspect’s vehicle managed to flee the scene, eventually ending up at a pawn shop just a few blocks away on Valley High Drive near the 410 highway. Both the victim and the driver of the car waited for help at this location before law enforcement responded. Despite the urgency of the situation, authorities were unable to identify any suspects, and no arrests have been made so far. Investigators found several shell casings on Flair Drive, but no further clues have been uncovered to pinpoint the shooter.

In response to the incident, the San Antonio Police Department brought in an Eagle helicopter to assist in searching for any potential suspects, but the search yielded no results. The authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and help them with their investigation.

Community Impact and Growing Concerns

The shooting has left a deep scar on the local community, which is typically known for its tranquility. Residents are now grappling with heightened concerns over their safety, especially as some neighbors fear for the well-being of their children. One local mother expressed her worries about bringing her children over to the area after school, citing how the violence has altered the peaceful atmosphere of the neighborhood. The realization that gun violence could occur so close to home has made many reconsider their sense of security, with some wondering if this will be a one-off incident or the beginning of more troubling times for the community.

Though the neighborhood had always been perceived as a safe and quiet place to live, the shooting has shaken that sense of calm. Now, residents are left to cope with the lingering effects of this terrifying event, as the investigation into the shootout continues. The thought that something so violent could unfold in their own backyard has left many residents feeling uneasy about their safety and questioning whether their neighborhood will ever be the same again.

Call for Help from the Community

The San Antonio Police Department is continuing its investigation into the shooting and is urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to the incident to come forward. With the lack of immediate suspects, the community’s involvement could prove crucial in solving the case. Neighbors who were able to capture footage of the incident on their door cameras have already stepped forward, providing valuable evidence to assist in the investigation. However, with the case still open and the gunman still at large, the hope is that more individuals who may have information will step forward to help law enforcement close in on those responsible for this senseless act of violence.

In the wake of the shooting, the neighborhood’s residents are left with questions about their safety and the future of their community. As they await answers from authorities, their sense of unease grows, and the lasting effects of this tragic incident remain to be seen.
