A helicopter search has recovered the body of missing US extreme skier Hilaree Nelson. Nelson went missing days ago after
Her body was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu, where doctors are expected to perform an autopsy. After failed attempts on Monday and Tuesday to locate Nelson’s body because of bad weather, helicopter rescuers were able to find her on Wednesday. A Nepalese man was killed, and several other climbers were injured by an avalanche at a lower elevation on the same mountain. During Nepal’s autumn climbing season, hundreds of climbers and their local guides attempted to reach the summit. In 2018, Nelson, from Telluride, Colorado, and Morrison, from Tahoe, California, both extreme skiers, reached the summit of Mount Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest mountain. During autumn, Nepal’s government issued permits to 504 climbers, mostly climbing Mount Manaslu.
