Honoring the Pioneers of KMOX: A Century of Broadcast Excellence

KMOX, the iconic radio station in St. Louis, is marking its 100th anniversary this year with a special day of programming. Audacy, the company behind the station, is celebrating KMOX Day on November 20, dedicating over 10 hours to a tribute that spans its storied history.

From 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. CST, listeners can tune in for exclusive content featuring both current and former KMOX talent. The broadcast will also spotlight 12 pioneers who helped shape the station and its connection to the St. Louis community.

Becky Domyan, Senior Vice President and Market Manager of Audacy St. Louis, emphasized the station’s impact: “For 100 years, KMOX has kept St. Louis informed and connected, a legacy we are incredibly proud of.

We now honor the pioneers who helped build this station. They are the definitive voices and leaders who became synonymous with KMOX and defined a century of service. We look forward to building on their foundation and continuing to serve as the home for news St. Louisans rely on for the next hundred years.”

In partnership with the St. Louis Media History Foundation, KMOX will honor 12 notable figures whose contributions have left an indelible mark on the station and the city. These honorees were selected for their remarkable longevity, groundbreaking work, and lasting influence on both the radio industry and St. Louis’ civic and cultural landscape.

The 12 individuals being recognized include former General Manager Robert Hyland, sports broadcaster Bob Costas, and former station hosts such as Jack Carney, Rex Davis, Bob Hardy, Anne Keefe, John McCormick, and Jim White.

KMOX will also recognize iconic play-by-play announcers from both the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Blues, including Jack Buck, Harry Caray, France Laux, and Dan Kelly.

Additionally, a special tribute will be given to the “Hillbilly Music Era” (1930s-1950s), a time when KMOX was known for its “National Champion Hillbillies.” This era helped shape American entertainment, highlighted Midwest culture, and solidified the station’s role as a beloved source of entertainment for a diverse audience.
