Again co-produced with Carmichael, Can’t Slow Down’s first #1 single, “All Night Long (All Night),” broadened Richie’s appeal with an undeniable Caribbean-flavored hook, while the heartfelt chart-topping piano ballad “Hello” also benefitted from an iconic video directed by Bob Giraldi. The infectiously grooving “Running With The Night” also sported an electrifying guitar solo by Toto’s Steve Lukather. Meanwhile, “Stuck On You” spotlighted the artist’s emerging country leanings that eventually peaked with his platinum-selling 2012 offering, Tuskegee. That album, named after the town in Alabama Richie was born in, featured 14 down-home reworkings of his hits as highlighted by collaborations with contemporary country artists including Blake Shelton, Jason Aldean, and Kenny Chesney.

Dancing On The Ceiling (1985) completed Richie’s 1980s chart-success trifecta with Carmichael by his side in the co-producer’s chair, achieving quadruple-platinum status while also supplying another slew of major hits. The title track’s colorful, kinetic video contains an homage to Fred Astaire’s iconic ceiling-dancing moves in 1951’s Royal Wedding. “Love Will Conquer All” marked Richie’s tenth appearance at the top of the Adult Contemporary chart. The syndicated service will offer the advertising ecosystem a fully integrated, linear TV targeting solution that will benefit marketers, agencies, buying platforms and publiaudiences that matter most—be it a first time car buyer or a frequent lunchbox snack purchaser—is paramount for both TV networks and advertisers.

By enabling buyers to seamlessly share their media plans and the audience segments created via Nielsen’s planning service, Nielsen Media Impact, with sellers through the clypd platform, media owners will be able to instantaneously price, evaluate and execute targeted audience buys.

In addition, publimarketers to leverage their own audience data sets for the purposes of planning and executing TV advertising buys has been limited in scale and cumbersome.

clypd and Nielsen are creating a streamlined workflow to bring efficiency to marketers looking to transact on TV with their own data and for media buyers new to TV advertising to leverage unique digital assets within TV.

The collaboration between Nielsen and clypd will give clients the ability to target Linear TV audiences by leveraging consumer profiles available through Nielsen TV MRI Fusion, Nielsen Buyer Insights, Nielsen Catalina Solutions, and other first-party data segments.

Additionally, this flexible solution, powered by the Nielsen Marketing Cloud, will pave the way for advertisers to activate an even wider range of valuable audiences on linear TV. It allows linear TV audiences to be defined based on thousands of additional consumer attributes and helps marketers reach these audiences across all marketing channels, as well as analyze and optimize the performance of their campaigns.

McKool Smith Secures $9.4 Million Verdict for Quincy Jones against the Michael Jackson Estate

McKool Smith has secured a $9.4 million jury verdict on behalf of legendary music producer Quincy Jones against the late music icon Michael Jackson’s production company, MJJ Productions Inc., in a breach of contract and royalty dispute. Mr. Jones produced a number of the King of Pop’s most acclaimed albums, including “Off the Wall,” “Thriller,” and “Bad.”

The lawsuit centered on allegations that MJJ Productions Inc., which is controlled by Michael Jackson’s estate, failed to pay Mr. Jones royalties for the soundtrack to “This Is It,” a documentary that was released just months after Michael Jackson’s death, and Jackson’s Cirque du Soleil productions, which both feature several musical hits produced by Jones.

The verdict was announced on July 26, 2017 following a two-week jury trial before Judge Michael L. Stern in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles. After deliberating for more than two days, the jury returned a verdict in favor of McKool Smith’s client finding that MJJ Productions Inc. owes Mr. Jones $9.4 million in unpaid royalty fees.

“The jury worked tirelessly to listen to all of the evidence and weigh the facts of the case,” said Mike McKool, a founder and Chairman of McKool Smith and lead counsel for Quincy Jones. “As we have maintained throughout trial, based on contractual obligations and a long standing agreement with Mr. Jackson himself, Quincy Jones is clearly entitled to his fair share of royalties based on his significant contributions to many of Michael Jackson’s most iconic pieces of work. We are very pleased with the jury’s decision.”

The McKool Smith trial team included Mike McKool, J. Michael Hennigan, Robert E. Allen, Scott L. Cole, and Caroline M. Walters, along with Henry Gradstein and Maryann R. Marzano of Gradstein & Marzano PC.

The case is Quincy Jones et al. v. MJJ Productions Inc. et al., case number BC525803, in the Superior Court of the State of California, County of Los Angeles.

Leading Hollywood producer Will Packerhas partnered with Discovery Communications and Universal Pictures to form Will Packer Media, a first-of-its-kind production and branded content company. The venture will focus on the New American Mainstream audience, with an Black millennial core that is defining and driving pop culture at large. Packer, who has had nine films open at number one at the box office, will serve as CEO. Will Packer Media will produce episodic scripted and unscripted series across television and digital platforms; create compelling content for brand clients; and build a consumer-facing digital destination offering short-form content for millennial audiences.

Clarke-Stone has been named Will Packer Media’s Head of Brand Studio, leading all brand initiatives. Alix Baudin, most recently SVP and GM of Digital Operations at Scripps Networks Interactive, has joined the new company as Co-Founder, President and Chief Operating Officer, overseeing day-to-day operations, growth strategy and digital initiatives.

In television, he was an executive producer of the Emmy-nominated remake of “Roots” and is an executive producer on the BET series “Being Mary Jane,” starring Gabrielle Union.

Will Packer Media will have offices in Los Angeles, New York City and Atlanta. CAA advised Packer on the transaction, and attorneys Matthew Johnson at Ziffren Brittenham and Michael Eisner at Eisner Jaffe also advised Packer and Will Packer Media. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Yesterday afternoon, MTV hosted another “Wild ‘N Out: LIVE from the Barbershop” pop-up in New York at the popular Well Connected Barbershop in Lower Eastside Manhattan. The event was hosted by MTV’s own “Wild ‘N Out” cast members Rip Micheals and Emmanuel Hudson; music was provided by DJ Max October.
During the pop-up, guests took home over $1500 in cash by participating in hilarious activities such as a dance-off, “What U Got,” “Yo Mama” Jokes, “Trap Karaoke” and the “Wild Style Battle.” Winners were awarded cash and “Wild ‘N Out” merchandise; the winning “Wild Style” team took home $1000.
