Loyola Marymount University's School of Film and Television today announced the lineup for the ninth season of its acclaimed interview series “The Hollywood Masters.” The season features three-time Academy Award®-nominated writer-director Jordan Peele (Get Out) along with Academy Award nominees Willem Dafoe, Gary Oldman and Ava DuVernay. It will close with a dual visit from award-winning cinematographer and Academy president John Bailey (LMU class of 1964) and his wife, award-winning editor Carol Littleton (E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial).
The program, hosted by Emmy® Award-winning journalist and executive features editor of The Hollywood Reporter Stephen Galloway, is filmed by students and alumni before a live audience on the Loyola Marymount University campus.
Dafoe (Platoon, The Last Temptation of Christ), a supporting actor nominee this year for The Florida Project, will take part in the series on February 7, followed by best actor nominee Oldman (Darkest Hour, Sid & Nancy, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban) on February 14. Writer-director DuVernay (A Wrinkle in Time, 13th, Selma) will visit the campus on February 21, with Bailey and Littleton appearing on March 14. Peele kicked off the season on January 31.
“This season's ‘Hollywood Masters' doesn't just celebrate veterans, it also puts a focus on the men and women who have impacted our culture in a major way early in their careers,” said Galloway. “With Ava DuVernay and Jordan Peele joining Willem Dafoe and Gary Oldman, we're seeing the work of the best and the brightest today, and entering the thinking of brilliant filmmakers as they navigate the risks and challenges of Hollywood in the future.”
“Our celebrated series ‘The Hollywood Masters' returns with another season of incredibly talented and prolific guests sharing their insights gained over years of navigating this often complex business,” said Stephen Ujlaki, dean of the School of Film and Television. “We are proud to provide our students, who are still forming their opinions and vision as artists, the unique opportunity to hear first-hand about the most creative and impactful moments that shaped these industry giants' careers.”
“The Hollywood Masters” tapings are open to LMU students, faculty and alumni only. Each of the 90-minute interviews will be transcribed and made available, along with clips, exclusively on The Hollywood Reporter website, where the series has drawn a worldwide audience. Edited versions of the show will be offered as full seasons on Netflix.
Season One of the series, featuring 11 episodes, is now streaming on Netflix.
