Grambling State University Student Earns Prestigious Apprenticeship

Jordan Williams, a junior computer science major from Monroe, Louisiana, has been selected as an apprentice in JPMorgan Chase’s Advancing Black Pathways initiative.GRAMBLING, La. – June 1, 2020 – Jordan Williams, a junior computer science major from Monroe, Louisiana, has been selected as an apprentice in JPMorgan Chase’s Advancing Black Pathways initiative.

“The JPMorgan Advancing Black Pathways Apprenticeship means a lot to me because I’ll be working as an apprentice for the largest bank corporation in America,” Williams said.

“I’ll be working virtually with black students from Harvard, Howard, Yale, Columbia, and Morehouse, just the name a few. Not only that, I’ll also be introduced to professionals from JPMorgan who will act as my mentors during the program and after.”

Through Advancing Black Pathways, JPMorgan Chase is working to improve educational opportunities and job readiness for black students. This includes hiring 4,000 black students at the firm in roles such as apprenticeships, internships and post-graduation roles over the next five years.

The company also is expanding partnerships with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other non-profit organizations to help provide career opportunities while supporting the professional development and financial health of black students.

Williams, a President’s List honor student, a member of Grambling State University’s Earl Lester Cole Honors College. He also holds memberships in the University’s Center for Mathematical Achievement in Science and Technology (CMAST) and Tiger L.I.F.T. leadership program, as well as the “World Famed” Tiger Marching Band.
