K-9 hurt as wanted man bolts from traffic stop in Southaven. (Video)

**Southaven, MS – A high-stakes traffic stop turned chaotic on Wednesday afternoon as a wanted man fled from law enforcement, leaving a police K-9 injured in the process.**

Southaven police officers conducted a routine traffic stop on Highway 51 when they recognized the driver as a suspect wanted for multiple offenses. Upon realizing he was cornered, the man abruptly exited his vehicle and sprinted into a nearby wooded area, prompting a swift response from the police.

In a dramatic pursuit captured on video, officers deployed K-9 officer Ace, a German shepherd trained for apprehension and tracking. However, while chasing the suspect through heavy brush, Ace sustained injuries, requiring immediate veterinary attention. Thankfully, Ace is expected to make a full recovery, though the precise nature of his injuries has not been disclosed.

“Officer Ace is part of our family and serves as a critical asset to our department,” said Southaven Police Chief, who expressed his gratitude for the K-9’s bravery and dedication. “These dogs put themselves on the line every day to keep our community safe.”

The pursuit, which lasted several minutes, ended with law enforcement apprehending the suspect later in the evening. He is now facing charges related to the initial warrant and will likely face additional charges for fleeing from police.

Authorities are investigating the incident and reviewing video footage to assess the events leading up to the K-9’s injury. Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity as the police department continues to prioritize community safety.

As for Officer Ace, his courageous efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. A “Get Well Soon” banner has been signed by fellow officers, illustrating the bond that exists within the Southaven police force and their loyal four-legged partners.
