Charges and Denial
55-year-old Chad Irish has been charged with second-degree murder following the discovery of 31-year-old Yazmeen Williams’ body in a sleeping bag. Irish denies involvement and claims not to know the victim.
Discovery and Investigation
Williams’ body was found last Friday on East 27th Street in Kips Bay, New York. The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office determined she died from a gunshot wound to the head. Surveillance footage reportedly shows a man in an electric wheelchair, believed to be Irish, dragging Williams’ body to the curb.
Initial and Upgraded Charges
Initially charged with concealment of a human corpse, Irish’s charges were upgraded to second-degree murder. He also faces two counts each of menacing and criminal possession of a weapon related to a separate incident.
Public and Family Reaction
Irish was apprehended outside the 13th precinct, where he denied any involvement. A candlelight memorial has been set up at the site where Williams’ body was found. Williams’ family expressed a desire for Irish to receive a life sentence.
Criminal History
Irish has 21 prior arrests, including one for attempted arson. He is currently in custody and is expected to face a judge soon.
