Surveillance Video Shows Deadly Collision
Surveillance video captured the moments when two cars collided in a deadly hit-and-run crash on Chicago’s South Side. The incident took place near 83rd and Kedzie.
Victim Identified
The victim, 25-year-old Raul, was returning home from work and was within half a mile of his residence when the crash occurred. Raul’s family described him as a proud uncle, a loyal friend, and someone who loved spending time with his family.
Details of the Crash
The crash happened around 11:58 PM on Thursday night. Surveillance cameras at a nearby restaurant recorded the sound of gunfire approximately 15 seconds before the collision. A black Jeep, speeding southbound on Kedzie, ran a red light and struck Raul’s car, which had the green light.
Aftermath of the Collision
The violent crash sent both vehicles into the storefront of the restaurant. Raul died from his injuries at the scene. Three male suspects fled from the Jeep, but only one was apprehended. The other two suspects remain at large.
Community Response
Area residents, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed their sympathies for Raul’s family and concern for the affected business owner. The suspect vehicle was reported stolen prior to the crash.
Call for Information
Chicago Police confirmed that one person was taken into custody, while two others are still on the run. The two suspects left a trail of blood as they tried to jump a fence in the area. The local alderman requested crews to help clear the debris from the scene. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact detectives.
