Terrifying Incident During Routine School Drop-Off
A routine school drop-off turned into a nightmare for a father in Harlem when a thief jumped into his double-parked car and drove off with his one-year-old daughter still inside. The incident occurred outside the Chloe Day School on West 134th Street.
Quick Response by NYPD
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) quickly responded to the situation. They tracked the vehicle using the father’s phone, which had been left inside the car. Within minutes, officers converged on the Upper East Side, where they found the vehicle and the child.
Child Reunited with Family Unharmed
The one-year-old girl, who had been strapped into her car seat, was safely carried from the vehicle by an NYPD officer. She was reunited with her family unharmed and later checked out at the hospital as a precaution.
Arrest of the Suspect
The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Jakari Grant, was arrested on the spot. Grant had been arrested and released just two days earlier for stealing another car in Brooklyn. This time, he faces serious charges, including grand larceny, auto kidnapping, and unlawful imprisonment.
Father’s Reaction
The child’s father, described as distraught and upset, declined to discuss the incident in detail. The school community was actively involved in searching for the car and supporting the father during the ordeal.
