Meet The Current’s New Music Director, Amber Hoback

Amber Hoback has been named the new music director at The Current, a role she officially started in June. Hoback brings a wealth of experience from her time at WNRN, an independent music station in Charlottesville, Virginia, where she served as both music director and midday host. Her journey in radio began during her graduate studies at the University of the Pacific, when she worked as part of the street team at KRSH in Santa Rosa, California. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Christopher Newport University.

Throughout her career, Hoback has held several notable positions, including promotions, programming director, and on-air hosting at KRSH, as well as music director and on-air host at WTTS-FM in Indianapolis.

“I’m thrilled to be joining The Current as music director,” Hoback said. “This has been a long-time career goal of mine, and the music scene here in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota is even more vibrant and exciting than I had imagined. I’m eager to share new music with The Current’s listeners, and I look forward to discovering more about this beautiful state and its people.”

As music director at The Current, Hoback will oversee the station’s music library, review artist submissions, suggest new music for DJs, and continue to contribute to well-loved programs like The Chart Show. She will work closely with Managing Director David Safar and Programming Director Lindsay Kimball to help the station expand its music offerings and deepen its connection with listeners.

David Safar expressed his excitement about Hoback’s appointment: “Amber’s expertise in curating music and helping audiences discover new sounds will be crucial as we continue to grow and strengthen our community presence.”
