Multiple Fire Crews Battle Blaze in Southeast Memphis
SOUTHEAST MEMPHIS, TN — A significant fire broke out in Southeast Memphis late this afternoon, prompting a swift response from multiple fire crews battling the flames. According to eyewitnesses, smoke could be seen billowing into the sky, creating a thick cloud that was visible for miles around.
The blaze erupted around 3:30 PM at a commercial building located near the intersection of Burbank and Winchester Roads. Firefighters from several nearby stations rushed to the scene, equipped with hoses and aerial ladders as they worked diligently to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby structures.
“Upon arrival, we found heavy flames coming from the roof of the building,” said Battalion Chief John Harris, who is leading the operation. “Our teams immediately initiated an interior attack while others set up exterior lines to protect adjacent properties.”
Fire crews faced several challenges, including gusty winds and the structural integrity of the building. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, but the fire quickly escalated, prompting the engagement of additional resources. Video footage captured by bystanders showed firefighters valiantly battling the inferno, spraying water while heavy plumes of black smoke filled the air.
As of 5:00 PM, the flames were still not fully under control, yet firefighters remain on site, working tirelessly to extinguish all hot spots. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with officials urging the public to avoid the area to facilitate emergency operations.
