Dr. F. Janelle Hannah Jefferson will work with a team to plan, design and facilitate training sessions on race, inclusion and ethnicity for the leadership of the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

Dr. F. Janelle Hannah Jefferson, ombudsperson and special assistant to the provost at Jackson State University, was recently appointed to serve as co-chair for the Race, Inclusion, and Ethnicity Taskforce Training committee for the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

The NACADA organization is comprised of professional advisers, counselors, faculty, administrators and students who work to promote quality academic advising at institutions of higher learning. Also, it aims to enhance the educational development of students.

Of her latest appointment, Jefferson said, “I am honored and elated to serve this organization and represent Jackson State University in participating with this work that I am very passionate about. Given the existing and current climate of inclusion and equity issues in higher education, I am very excited to be afforded the opportunity to share in providing training for the leadership of NACADA to aid in making improvements for students, faculty and staff in this discipline.”

As co-chair of the education training committee, Jefferson will work with other professionals to plan, design and facilitate training sessions for the leadership of NACADA as it relates to issues of race and inclusion.

The first of many training sessions will occur virtually during this year’s NACADA Annual Conference, which will be Oct. 5-8.

At JSU, Jefferson previously served as an academic adviser, chief academic adviser and coordinator of advisement before becoming director of the University Academic Advisement Center. Aside from her current duties as ombudsperson and assistant to the provost,
