WHAT? Chicago radio station offers Rod Blagojevich a show !!!

0

Radio Facts:

A Chicago radio station is offering embattled Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich a new job.

During a show early Thursday, the program director at WLS-AM announced that if Blagojevich resigns, the station will offer him his own weekly radio program from noon to 2 p.m. on Sundays.

Program director Bob Shomper said the station is asking the governor to spare the state the embarrassment and expense of forcibly removing him from office.

Blagojevich has been impeached by the state House and faces an impeachment trial in the Senate starting Monday that could end with his removal.

Shomper says the station's offer reflects the will of the people, who he says want the governor gone.

Messages left for the governor's spokesman were not immediately returned Thursday.

V-103 Cans Show/Rick Caffey/GM will Announce Midday Replacement?

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Atlanta’s V103 has decided to can the show that gave advice to a group of people that no longer exists… car buyers (laugh, I kill me, I really do). PD Reggie Rouse told the AJC he wasnâ„¢t ready to announce what will replace the Auto show or who the new midday host would be to replace the recently vacated seat of Porsche Foxx. He told the AJC his boss Rick Caffey, who will be back in town Monday will be making the decision. Question: When the GM makes programming decisions, does the programmer have to take responsibility if it doesn’t work?   Here is Rick during an interview with Rolling Out. Why is he holding the mic and why isn’t somebody interviewing him? In addition, he makes some interesting points about urban radio.

Radio Facts: Craig Roberts is one of the lucky ones during this week of sadness and hardship in corporate radio: Not only did he get to keep his job, heâ„¢s starting full-bore on a second job Monday.

Roberts escaped the Grim Reaper that claimed more than 1,800 jobs nationwide, including a reported 42 to 50 in Houston, at Clear Channel radio stations and other company divisions. He remains as the morning drive co-host with Brad Davies of The Menâ„¢s Room on KBME (790 AM), but the two will soldier on without their sidekick Maggie, whose job was eliminated.

Roberts also will return to nightly television duties Monday when his weekly show Sports Off Center expand s to weeknights at 10 p.m. on KTBU (Channel 55). Mike Vance, Stacie Lynn and Dave Knobler remain as his primary counterparts in the humor-based look at sports and other topics.

Å“We think people will enjoy the show, said Channel 55 station manager Matt Reiff. Å“Weâ„¢re kind of riffing off Soup on E and The Daily Show. If at 10 p.m. youâ„¢re bored with whatâ„¢s going on in the world and donâ„¢t want to watch car wrecks and hear about the economy, you can come to us for a little levity.

Roberts said the cast will do the show live to tape, working four days in the Channel 55 studio and one day at a remote site.

The Industry Dot Biz: Radio Station Finds Jobs for Listeners

A couple of weeks ago, I was on the phone with my old friend and colleague Francene Cucinello, a midday radio host on WHAS-AM in Louisville, Ky. She was less than a half-hour from going on the air when I mentioned that everybody I talk to these days is either looking for work or worried about losing their job. I said something offhand like, “You know, you should tell your listeners to call in if they have a decent job to offer.”

She saw the potential right away and launched it. The phones lit up and have not stopped. I asked her to give us some insight about this.

Al Tompkins: What is the need?

Francene Cucinello: I’ve been working in talk radio and television for 15 years. Like so many of us, I’ve been laid off several times. Guess you could say I’m an expert when
