Radio Facts: Even my father, who is clueless about the internet, asked me to show him how to find streaming coverage of the inauguration. For my father to 1) attempt to use the web and 2) pay attention to anything political then I know the country is going through a transition.

If my dad has trouble getting “the damn labtop to work” then he could just listen to the whole thing on NPR. The festivities start today….

NPR will be the only radio broadcaster of Å“We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at The Lincoln Memorial, the opening celebration for the 56th Presidential Inaugural, live on Sunday, January 18. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be offered by NPR to public radio stations nationwide, and be available as a simultaneous stream at the Web sites of many stations. NPRâ„¢s special will air from 2:00-5:00PM (ET), with the official celebration scheduled to begin live at 2:30PM (ET). For information about the broadcast and updates about local stations airing Å“We Are One, visit: www.NPR.org/weareone

This seems to be quite a steal for NPR, considering EVERYONE is interested in this inauguration celebration.

I can’t wait for the phone call from the old man when he tries to find NPR on the radi

Indie 103.1: Has Radio Run Its Course

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Southern California residents were saddened to learn that Indie 103.1, a long-running radio station known for playing the edgy music that "corporate" stations wouldn't touch, is ceasing to broadcast today. Indie 103.1 had came under criticism for watering down its playlists in recent years to compete with rivals like KROQ, and it seems, based on a farewell message at the Indie 103.1 website, that the station's management did not like that direction either.

Former Indie 103.1 host Chris Morris writes on an LA Times blog about why this is a "very sad" day:

For most of its existence, Indie 103.1 advanced a style of radio in its specialty programming that hadnâ„¢t been seen in a major radio market for eons. What was heard on the air was a reflection of the individual Radio DJsâ„¢ tastes and passions. The amount of liberty I enjoyed was unbelievable. It was a throwback to the free-form style I grew up with, which held sway briefly in pre-Å“album oriented radio in the â„¢70s; the maverick early KROQ flashed the same gunslinging approach.

WHAT? Local Radio Stars Silenced

Radio Facts:

San Diego-based radio talk-show hosts have suddenly become an endangered species, leaving listeners with few places to hear chatter dedicated to both local politics and national issues, according to a published report.

In recent weeks, the station known as San Diego 1700 has severed ties with Stacy Taylor and Mark Larson, both longtime staples of local talk radio, apparently in favor of less expensive alternatives, VoiceofSanDiego.org reported. T

OH NO: DJ Passes Out on the Air

The Industry Dot Biz: width=This is not funny, but I guess the stress of not knowing what to expect in today’s industry is actually compromising the health some radio people… maybe not.   Philly’s Steve Morison of WMMR (pictured right)   actually passed out on the air reports the Philadelphia Inquirer. They had to call 911 as the dreaded dead air hit the airwaves. But the paramedics hustled the Å“Preston and Steve co-star to the hospital, by which time he was conscious again. Reps claim that hadnâ„¢t eaten breakfasta and we suffering from a cold.

Britney’s New Single “If U Seek Amy” Faces U.S. Radio Station Issue…

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Britney Spears’s forthcoming single “If U Seek Amy” is facing a U.S. radio stations ban over its controversial lyrics. The track, which is the third single from her current album Circus has Spears singing the phrase “If you seek Amy,” which actually sounds like she is saying “F.U.C.K me.”
“It’s OK to put in on an album, have fun with it, but we’re publicly owned, you know?” Patti Marshall of Cincinnati’s Q102 told MTV. “We have a responsibility to the public, you put this… out and act like we’re all fuddy-duddies, like we’re trying to make moral judgments. It’s not about us. It’s about the mom in the minivan with her eight-year-old,” Marshall added.
