MUSICANE ADDS SONY BMG AND EMI MUSIC DIGITAL CATALOGUES

0

Radio Facts:

With this Announcement, More Than 80% of Major Label Recordings are Now Available Through Musicane’s Social Shopping Network

 Social shopping network Musicane today announced it will add digital catalogues from SONY BMG Music Entertainment and EMI Music to its offerings. These recordings will be sold in the unrestricted MP3 format through the Musicane site ( www.musicane.com ), as well as through its popular Musicane widget, which is embedded on major artist’s blogs and social networks and on over 500,000 internet users own websites or community profiles. Musicane inked a deal with Universal Music Group earlier this year which also granted the company a license to sell its entire catalogue in the MP3 format.

“We are honored to be working with the largest labels in the music industry to help them reach their consumers more directly. At Musicane, our core belief is that music is the unifying lifestyle driver, particularly online through fans’ social networks and related blogs. By partnering with the largest content providers and their artists, we have built a win-win business model for distributing and retailing products to today’s growing online communities,” said Musicane President & COO Vikramaditya Jain.

Under the terms of the agreement, Musicane will offer tracks from SONY BMG Music Entertainment ‘s vast historical catalog and more than 100,000 tracks from EMI Music to the service. Artists who will initially be available through Musicane in the coming months include Beyoncé , Britney Spears, Coldplay , David Cook , John Legend , Kanye West, Katy Perry , Pink, Sara Bareilles , The Killers , U2 , and Wyclef Jean .

Initially rolling out in the music space, Musicane’s proprietary widgets allow users to personalize and embed their own media storefronts on their social network profiles and blogs. Users can purchase music downloads without leaving the page they are on utilizing the company’s unique embedded commerce technology. Through the Musicane model, users can now earn money from their existing social network presence as well as recommend their favorite music and artists.

With these deals in place, Musicane will now serve as an authorized digital retailer to three of the four major music entertainment companies, delivering 80% of the world’s major label musical content to consumers for the ultimate interactive online shopping, entertainment and discovery experience.

Today Musicane widgets are widely used by major artists on their websites and social network profiles and have generated over 70 million impressions in 2008. Approximately 500,000 people have embedded Musicane widgets on their profiles with ten million widgets employed through artist launches.

Arbitron Plans to Expand Cell-Phone-Only Sampling to All Markets in 2009

0

Radio Facts:

Major program to help improve sample quality especially among young adults;
151 diary markets targeted to receive cell-phone-only sampling in Spring 2009 assuming completion of software to support rollout;   All markets except Puerto Rico to be cell-phone sampled by Fall 2009

 Arbitron Inc . (NYSE: ARB) today announced that it plans to expand the introduction of cell-phone-only sampling to 151 diary markets in Spring 2009 and to all markets (except Puerto Rico) by Fall 2009. This new implementation schedule significantly accelerates the company’s previously announced plan to introduce cell-phone-only sampling to 50 diary markets in Spring 2009 and to a total of 125 diary markets in Fall 2009.

“This is a substantial enhancement in sample quality and it demonstrates our ongoing commitment to improve the diary service. The Radio Advisory Council, the Diary Market Owner/Operator Caucus and the Media Rating Council all supported the introduction of cell-phone-only sampling in diary markets,” said Pierre Bouvard, president, Sales and Marketing, Arbitron Inc. “Arbitron has been a recognized leader in cell phone only research and we’re pleased that for the second time in three short months, we are able to speed up our plans for getting these households into our diary samples.” Arbitron plans to use an address-based sample frame as the foundation of its cell-phone-only sample, while maintaining the rand om-digit-dial (RDD) sample frame for land line households.

“The number of households that can be reached only by cell phone is growing rapidly and these households are more likely to include persons between the ages of 18 and 34. By including cell-phone-only homes in the sample frame we will be better able to improve young adult proportionality in diary markets,” said Owen Charlebois, president, Technology and Research & Development, Arbitron Inc.

The acceleration of cell phone-only sampling to 151 markets in the spring assumes that the company is able to complete the development of software necessary to support the rollout as scheduled. If the company is not able to develop the software as expected, the planned acceleration of cell phone-only sampling could be delayed. Arbitron expects to confirm its plans for cell-phone-only sampling for the Spring 2009 survey by late February. After all metro markets have cell phone sampling, Arbitron expects to review options for expand ing cell-phone-only sampling to the non-metro counties that are included in the RADAR, Nationwide and County Coverage reports. A list of the 151 markets scheduled for cell-phone-only sampling in Spring 2009 is attached. Portable People Meter TM markets already include cell-phone-only households in their sample frames.
