OH NO: Chuck D Called me an Urban Radio Idiot

0

The Industry Dot Biz: UPDATE: Chuck has responded, all is well….see comments.

I just found this post that I wrote where Public Enemy’s Chuck D, copied, pasted and responded by calling me an Idiot (laugh). I’ve been called a lot of things but I think this is the first time I have ever been called an idiot. There must be a support group for people like me?

Without question, I absolutely agree with many of the points Chuck makes in his theory and at this point, I’m on the fence on the issue discussed here. Further, I know I am a revolutionary, at best,   in today’s industry where there is not ONE other publisher who has the balls that I do, to say what I say or to bring up subject matter that I bring up…just as Chuck is a revolutionary in the rap industry and I like people who are not afraid to speak their minds… I take my hat off to Chuck…. STILL after 25 years in the industry and working with the most twisted and psycho radio people on the planet… he can have hip hop music… but radio belongs to me! (laugh) You can read what he said here.. https://www.publicenemy.com/index.php?page=page3&item=148

OH NO: Rush Limbaugh Dropped from Investor Roster for Rams Purchase

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Controversial conservative talk show host rush limbaugh has been dropped from a group trying to buy the St. Louis Rams after several black NFL players objected and the league commissioner weighed in against Limbaugh’s “divisive comments.” “It has become clear that his (Limbaugh’s) involvement in our group has become a complication and a distraction to our intentions,” said SPC Worldwide Chairman Dave Checketts, who is leading the bid to buy the National Football League team and keep it in St. Louis.

“We have decided to move forward without him and hope it will eventually lead us to a successful conclusion,” Checketts said in an emailed statement. Several black NFL players have told newspaper reporters they would never play for a team owned by Limbaugh because of remarks they found racially objectionable, including his comment that the media wanted Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb to succeed because he is black. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay on Tuesday said he could not consider voting to approve Limbaugh as an owner because of comments that were “inappropriate, incendiary and insensitive,” according to an Associated Press report posted on the NFL’s website.

According to the report, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell told the NFL Fall League Meeting: “I think divisive comments are not what the NFL is all about. I would not want to see those kind of comments from people who are in a responsible position within the NFL.” Checketts’ group is bidding for the Rams as part of a sale being conducted by Goldman Sachs. While the process limits Checketts on what he can say, he obtained special permission to clarify the investor group’s intentions, he said.

A spokeswoman for Limbaugh could not immediately be reached for comment. Checketts, who owns the National Hockey League’s St. Louis Blues, wants to keep the Rams based in St. Louis, and to bolster these efforts, his group had invited Missourians to join them, leading to Limbaugh getting involved. Limbaugh was to have had a limited partnership role, said Checketts, and little day-to-day involvement.

A native of Missouri, Limbaugh is one of the most highly paid figures in broadcast media and an ardent football fan who came close to landing a spot as a commentator on “Monday Night Football” on ABC in 2000. Three years later, Limbaugh, who played football in high school, joined ESPN’s “Sunday NFL Countdown.”

After a month on the show, he resigned amid controversy over his remarks about McNabb. Limbaugh was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and later worked for the Kansas City Royals baseball team. Forbes magazine recently valued the Rams at $913 million, ranking them 25th out of 32 NFL teams.

Industry Great Hank Spann Has Died

0

The Industry Dot Biz: This has been SUCH a year of loss for the industry and I’m sorry to report that industry vet Hank Spann has passed.  I was shocked to discover Hank worked in Buffalo with all the other radio greats at WUFO decades ago. He was truly one of the most down to earth people I had ever met in the industry and I’ve been on a couple of panels with him at various industry conferences. Hank, who has been ill for a while, started as a dj and also had an illustrious career in records. Remember these sheets from the radio stations in the 60s and 70s when DJs were stars? Retail worked with radio and put these lists in the record stores with the station’s top songs.  One of my greatest childhood memories as a music lover was my mother and father used to take me on separate trips to Audrey’s and Dells to buy 5 and get 1 free whenever I asked and WBLK had this sheet with a promotion called the Blk Pick of the Week.  I found this sheet on eBay with Hank’s pic, someone is selling it. In addition, hear Hank open his show on WWRL hererfocus.org. Looking at this sheet makes it so hard for me to believe how homogenized urban radio has become thanks to the corporations and how the craft has been so watered down and disrespected. These guys were truly the last greats.

USA Cares Announces New Program for Military Housing Lenders

The Industry Dot Biz: Program to provide training/certification to lending community for military borrowers

USA Cares today announced the creation of a new program designed to support the nation’s servicemen and women and veteran’s who may be experiencing hardship in making their mortgage payments. The program will support borrowers by helping lenders to better understand the unique financial and life challenges of military homeowners as well as educating lenders about the financial benefits military families have access to. USA Cares will also work with the housing counseling community to facilitate their awareness of the needs of military service members.

Bill Nelson, Executive Director of USA Cares said, “Our nation is at war and suffering tough economic times. Our new program will help enlisted and veteran borrowers avoid foreclosure and improve the experience of prospective homeowners who seek affordable homes.”

The effort will include a training course for individual lenders and a qualification stand ard for their parent lending institutions. Lenders will enroll in the Participating Lender Course (PLC) which will be offered nationwide in both classroom and web-based versions beginning this month. Successful completion of the course will be recognized with a certificate and that mark of excellence will become a sought after signal to military families, the promise that they will get the expert care they have earned though their service.

Beverly Ray Frase of USA Cares will direct the new program. She comes to USA Cares with a strong background as Mortgage Broker, Real Estate Broker and career Army wife. “I’ve been on all sides of this,” says Beverly. “I’ve been the military family buying a home, the Realtor helping find a home in a short window of time, and the lender helping to complete the purchase. I know firsthand what hurdles come along for military families trying to achieve homeownership and I understand the struggle some families face as they try to stay in their homes.”

USA Cares is no stranger to supporting the homeownership goals of military families. “We’ve paid out over one million dollars to save military family homes from foreclosure in the past three years,” said Jennifer Robinson, USA Cares Director of Assistance. “This new effort will help reduce the need for such assistance by supporting military borrowers and their lenders as they work together to make affordable and sustainable housing decisions.”

The program will be administered through USA Cares, a nationally recognized 501(c)3 that provides financial assistance to post 9/11 service members, veterans and their families. The program is funded by a grant from Fannie Mae.
