OH NO: It Came and Went? Streetz 102.9 is Off the Air

0

The Industry Dot Biz: See what time you read it here then watch the other pu..y trades copy the story from us (they could AT LEAST give us credit) Jesus and all the Disciples. Was the media pressure too much, did Radio One attorney’s win out already? Streetz 102.9 is gone… that quick. The website is down and several sources in ATL say the station is off the air…

Hegwood Hiding? AJC Reporter Tracks Down Offices of Streetz 102.9

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Rodney Ho, the Atlanta Journal and Constitution’s media reporter informed us yesterday that he went by to ask Steve Hegwood a few questions about Streetz 102.9. Apparently, Atlantans are just as interested   in the situation as the indsuty is. See here for Steve’s strange reaction.

Hegwood’s Alleged Streetz Station in Atlanta… What if….

0

The Industry Dot Biz: While it appears there may be a clear conflict of interest or a non compete still in effect for Steve Hegwood and Wayne Brown as two former Radio One employees in Atlanta with an alleged new station The Streetz 102.9… what if…

1. The station is simulcast from another market? Would that still be considered a breach of contract if they are not actually “broadcasting” from the Atlanta market?

2. Georgia is an “at will” state. Does the state law supersede contracts with non compete clauses?

Allegedly, Alfred Liggins has started legal proceedings. Even if the above held true the bottom line appears to be if Hegwood and /or Brown are still being PAID by Radio One, if that’s the case, the contract may override everything. We love revolutionaries and we love this story and so do you, it was the most read yesterday with the most links to the station’s site to hear it.

Alleged Hegwood Station on in Atl and we LIKE IT (link)

0

Looks like Steve Hegwood’s alleged station has wasted NO time in getting the mostly hop hop low power outlet on the dial in Atl. The station is called The Streetz 102.9, here’s a link. We hear Radio One is already proceeding with legal action. We hear Clear Channel owns the signal and that Clark University has something to do with the deal. The low power outlet seems to result in a whole lot of mystery right now. Time will tell what’s going on. Sounds like Mike Styles is doing the imaging.

The Industry Dot Biz: For a while we’ve been saying this was going to happen, see a post back in Jan here. We had a conversation with a Program Director who suggested this could happen and it made sense back then (over the last Holidays). Looks like Radio One has started the process and Clear Channel is on board as well. We will keep you posted of changes.

What’s going to happen while T.I. is incarcerated to his imprint, Grand Hustle? MOTOWN Celebrates: Marvin Gaye Would have been 70 April 2nd

0

The Industry Dot Biz: Santa Monica, CA: In the 50th anniversary year of Motown, April 2, 2009 will mark the 70th birthday of the late great Marvin Gaye. Sadly, April 1 will also mark the 25th anniversary of his tragic death the day before his 45th birthday. Motownâ„¢s top solo male artist of the â„¢60s, led by his Å“I Heard It Through The Grapevine ”at one time the biggest selling single in Motown history ¾Gaye became the labelâ„¢s most revolutionary artist in the â„¢70s, breaking down barriers whether singing about the body or the soul, social consciousness or sexual politics. From his â„¢60s classic Å“How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You), to his legendary rendition of Å“The Star-Spangled Banner at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game, he defined the soul in Å“soul music.

Marvin Gayeâ„¢s popularity and influence continues. His 1971 album Whatâ„¢s Going On forever changed the subject matter of popular music; itâ„¢s one of Rolling Stone magazineâ„¢s top 10 albums of all time. In 1973, Letâ„¢s Get It On became perhaps the most passionate and sexual album ever recorded, led by its title track, which remains one of the most popular songs of all time ¾a certified Gold single back in the day, in the digital music era itâ„¢s a Gold digital download and a Platinum-selling ringtone as well. In 1987, three years after his death, Gaye was rightfully among only the second group of artists honored with induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. More recently, Marvin Gaye was No. 6 on Rolling Stoneâ„¢s list of the 100 Greatest Singers Of All Time.

Noting the milestones of his birth and passing, Motown/UMe will issue a special digital-only album on March 31, Marvin Gaye: Then & Now, a 14-track set of rarities highlighted by the previously unreleased Å“Soulie (pronounced Å“sue-lee ), a 1966 recording recently unearthed by Motownâ„¢s New York-based producer Mickey Gentile, and a hot funk 2009 remix of Å“I Want You, Marvinâ„¢s No. 1 hit from 1976, by the renowned John Morales of M+M Productions. Other tracks making their online debut are: the deep vault track Å“Itâ„¢s Your Party, and his two super-rare late â„¢50s Chess recordings with Harvey & The Moonglows (Å“Mama Loocie, Å“Twelve Months Of The Year ). Rounding out this special collection are Marvinâ„¢s earliest, pre-hit Motown singles (Å“Witchcraft, Å“Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide and more).
Motown/UMe is also issuing a vinyl-only edition of United (Motown/UMe), Gayeâ„¢s classic duet album with Tammi Terrell, on April 14. The stand ard by which all R&B male-female duos are measured, Gaye and Terrell first teamed on the 1967 album that included Å“If I Could Build My World Around You, Å“Your Precious Love and Å“Ainâ„¢t No Mountain High Enough.

In addition, the ongoing, acclaimed Å“Motown 50 podcast series will feature special episodes on Marvin Gayeâ„¢s life and music; Gaye is also well represented on the deluxe 10-CD box set Motown: The Complete No. 1â„¢s, which kicked off the year long celebration for Motownâ„¢s 50th anniversary. Both The Real Thing, a DVD collection of his greatest television and concert appearances, and Gold, a 2-CD overview of his career, have recently been certified Gold. Gaye will also figure prominently in a two-hour documentary about Motown produced by the labelâ„¢s founder, Berry Gordy.
